Ski and Snowboard Instructors

Position Description

Reporting to the Guest Services Manager, the main responsibility of our Ski and Snowboard Instructors is to provide an excellent guest experience while in a safe and professional teaching environment. The position will work in partnership with other areas of the Edmonton Ski Club. There will be an expectation of cross-training and mutual support between all areas.

 

You are hands-on, identifying opportunities and solving problems. You are proactive, committed to safety and quality service. You have demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills with experience in dealing with the public and fellow staff. You create a safe and positive work culture.

Responsibilites

  • Instruct and coach guests of all ages and abilities to ski or snowboard within instructor’s certification level, group lessons to privates, adults and children

  • Complete lesson ability reports & relevant administration forms as required

  • Meet with individuals and groups prior to the start of a lesson

  • Ensuring individuals are comfortable with their equipment before the lesson commences

  • Teaching familiarity of how to load and unload the ski lifts

  • Teaching individuals new skills and techniques to help improve their ability

  • Promotes safety and the alpine responsibility code to gives students the knowledge to remain safe when out skiing/snowboarding without an instructor

  • Work in the Beginner Area

  • Work as a Guest Services Associate as scheduled by the Snow School:

    • Provide excellent guest service to internal and external guests, creates a positive, family-oriented and lively atmosphere

    • Remain current on pass and ticket offerings, lessons, programs, camps, school/group bookings, special events, and other items offered to the public

    • Operate the facility effectively and efficiently

    • Clean and maintain the facility (inside and outside) on a regular basis

    • Operate the facility according to Board-approved operational requirements, Board-approved policies and procedures and all applicable regulatory standards

    • Identifies and pursues opportunities to improve the sustainability of the organization

    • Act as a community ambassador for the Edmonton Ski Club

    • Assist in other tasks as required; including rentals, special events, lift operations, maintenance and ski school as assigned by the Snow School.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge and adherence to Alpine Responsibility Code

  • Enthusiastic about skiing and snowboarding, self-motivated team player

  • Outgoing and friendly attitude

  • Good decision-making skills & safety oriented

  • Effective verbal and listening skills

  • Maintain a professional appearance, demeanor, and attitude at all times

  • Able to work outside in all weather conditions

  • Minimum CSIA/ CASI Level 1 with higher levels preferred

  • Strong communication skills with a second language considered an asset

Dress Code

  • Outdoor Ski School Uniform provided, personal items and clothing in accordance with appearance standards.

Work Schedule

  • This is a part-time seasonal position, December – March. Planned hours of operation are:

    • Monday-Tuesday: 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM​

    • Wednesday-Friday: 1:00 PM - 9:00 PM

    • Saturday-Sunday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM
