Edmonton Ski Club is home to two different freestyle skiing programs: Edmonton Freestyle Ski Club and School of Newschool. No matter what kind of freestyle skiing you're interested in, there's a program here to suit your needs.
Jenn Heil started skiing at ESC, and has gone on to become an Olympic medallist and World Cup champion. To help celebrate ESC's 100th anniversary season, Jenn answered a few questions for us:
Where do you consider your first home club?
ESC!
When did you start skiing, and where?
2 years old, Marmot Basin, Jasper.
When did you first come and ski at the Edmonton Ski Club?
My Grandpa took me there when I was really young.
When did you join the Northern Alberta Freestyle Ski Club?
When I was nine I started skiing there 3x/week because I joined the Freestyle Club.
How many years did you actually train at ESC?
Three years
Where did you go to train after ESC?
One year at Sunshine because my older sister was on the Alberta Team, then I joined the Alberta Team for three years at Fortress Mountain, and then at 16 I made the National Development Team, and at 17 I made the National World Cup Team.
Did you come up through local competitions?
Yes, started competing in moguls at ESC, regional events.
Any ESC-related memories that would interest our members?
I remember arriving at ESC with rear-entry ski boots and stretchy pants and had to use them all season -- I was nine, eventually my sister helped me out with the fashion thing.
